It's warm and beautiful in SW Montana these days. With snow melting rapidly in the mountains at all elevations and (nearly) all aspects, early July typically marks the start of backpacking season for us. While the late spring snow added a ton of to the upper elevation snowpack (and wreaked havoc in the Beartooths - even closing Yellowstone Park entirely for a while), this year has been fairly typical and backpacking and camping in the mountains is prime. July is easily my favorite time to camp around here because of pristine campsites and fewer mosquitos. It's also a great time to find lingering snow fields and couloirs still holding snow which can provide much needed turns for those addicted. It's a great time to finally make the camping trip you've been thinking about or to go explore a new area. Get out there, have fun and be safe! Checkout our Backpacking section in the store!
